Track: SAM Program Design, Structure, and Management

Most SAM journeys do not fail on strategy. They stall on sustainability. The roadmap is built, the methodology is chosen, the program launches with energy, and then momentum quietly leaks away. Competency models multiply, training drifts from the account ambition, engagement becomes inconsistent from one team to the next, and the transformation settles back into being an initiative rather than the way the business works.

Whether you call it a Center of Excellence (CoE) or a SAM program office, the message is the same: these enabling units are critical to your roadmap’s success. The CoE is the lighthouse that keeps the journey on course — and the group of people who carry the organization through the climb.

SAM and CoE leaders consistently ask:

  • We have a roadmap and a methodology — so why is adoption still so uneven?
  • How do we hold global consistency without losing local relevance?
  • How much structure is enough before the CoE becomes a bureaucracy?
  • Our executives sponsor the program on paper. How do we get them actively engaged?

This highly interactive session positions the Center of Excellence as the anchor of the SAM roadmap — the enabling structure that drives vision, secures alignment, embeds consistency and sustains continuous evolution. Using the six-year Arcadis transformation as a live working case, participants will trace how one organization moved from generic, fragmented development initiatives to a unified, customer-centric engagement model, and diagnose where their own journey is stalling.

Session goals & key objectives

  1. The CoE as lighthouse: What a Center of Excellence actually is — and is not. Why it is the anchor, not the administrative layer, of the SAM roadmap, and how it acts as the catalyst for mindset, process, and skillset across every customer-facing role.
  2. Diagnosing the stall: Where SAM journeys leak — siloed competency models, varying definitions of value, inconsistent engagement, capability building disconnected from strategic-account ambition. How to locate the leak before pouring in more investment.
  3. Design without complexity: The essential CoE roadmap components and the discipline of leaving out the rest. Getting the balance right between driving corporate alignment and letting local teams stay close to their customers.
  4. From curriculum to culture: How Arcadis reframed development around a cohesive customer-centric curriculum — a broad Client Focus Academy feeding an advanced Growth Accelerator Program aligned to the CSAM pathway — and what it took to make it stick.
